Alabama has the longest average penis length, a US survey has shown.

The study of 1,300 people with penises, conducted by self-described gay anal surgery practice Bespoke Surgical, found the average erect penis length in the southern state was 7.44 inches.

This was rivalled only by Louisiana, with 7.15 inches, and West Virginia, which came in at seven inches exactly.

Vermont and Utah reportedly contained the next biggest average penises, measuring up at 6.98 and 6.97 inches respectively.

Which states have the smallest average penis lengths?

The state with the smallest self-reported penis length was Delaware, which registered an average of 5.22 inches, according to the statistics.

The east coast state only just took this title ahead of New Mexico, with 5.36 inches, and its neighbour Maryland, which came in at 5.50 inches.

Georgia was the sole southern member of the five states with the smallest average lengths, coming in at 5.69 inches, ahead of Rhode Island with 5.83 inches.

Arizona, Arkansas and Indiana were the only other states where people with a penis reported that their member was less than six inches long when erect, the statistics showed.

Do Americans exaggerate their penis size?

As well as being asked how long their penises were when fully erect, respondents were posed another question: What length do you say your penis is at full erection when asked by potential sexual partners?

On average, people who lied to their prospective lovers about their penis length would add 0.98 inches to their measurement.

People in Delaware told the biggest lies, on average, adding 1.3 inches to their members.

This was ahead of Louisiana residents, who imagined their penises were 0.92 inches bigger when they were talking to dates.

However, the majority of people—62 percent—said they told the truth about their packages, the statistics showed.

And 12 percent reported downplaying their length when talking to potential partners, doing so by an average of 1.03 inches.

Rhode Island respondents minimised their members the most, shaving 1.17 inches from their actual length.

On average, 12 states’ residents understated their penis lengths.

While reporting the results, Bespoke Surgical explained the thinking behind the survey, saying: “The question of size is something that comes up frequently with women and men, both straight and LGBTQ+.

“There are countless jokes about size, overcompensating, and men vastly overstating their size to others. This often leads to a lot of misinformation as well as potential negative self-esteem issues, especially when it comes to the gay community.

“The reality is that we are all individuals and with that comes different characteristics, and those differences should be celebrated.”
