Team Brisbane Tennis Inc. is proud to announce the running of the Brisvegas Open 2019 tournament from 31 May to 2 June at the Queensland Tennis Centre. Team Brisbane Tennis aims to promote, encourage and advance the game of tennis and to provide a safe, inclusive environment for our LGBTIQ+ players. The tournament is sanctioned by the international Gay and Lesbian Tennis Alliance (GLTA) and will consist of both singles and doubles events across five grades of tennis ability from Open to beginners.
This year’s tournament aims to improve on the inaugural LGBTIQ+ Brisvegas Doubles 2018 tournament, held in September last year, by offering more events to expand the tournament. Our club is one of several working with Tennis Australia and state affiliates to deliver diverse and inclusive tennis to the LGBTIQ+ community.
The theme for Brisvegas Open 2019 is “Healthy, fun and inclusive”.
HEALTHY
In addition to the documented health benefits of playing tennis, we are partnering with Inspire Health to offer several tennis related activities and advisory services to both players and members of the public at Queensland Tennis Centre during the tournament.
FUN
GLTA tournaments worldwide are renowned for their emphasis on the fun social aspects of tennis. In addition to the friendly competition there are several social activities planned. These include a Welcome Drinks function, a Players Party and the Awards Ceremony. Come and make friends with local, interstate and overseas players who will be visiting Brisbane for the tournament.
INCLUSIVE
The tournament is not exclusively for LGBTIQ+ players, but all participants must show mutual respect and ensure the tournament is safe and inclusive for LGBTIQ+ players.
The tournament is scheduled to commence at noon on Friday 31 May (subject to final entry numbers) with sessions scheduled from 1200 to 2030 hours Friday, 0700 to 1400 hours (Pat Rafter Arena 0700 to 1900 hours) Saturday and 0900 to 1700 hours on Sunday (including Pat Rafter Arena). Welcome Drinks will be held on Friday evening from 1800 hours and the Players Party will be held Saturday evening from 1830 hours. On Sunday the finals will be followed by the Awards Ceremony on Pat Rafter Arena.
Come and join us for a great weekend of tennis.
