worldaidsdayDecember 1st is not only World AIDS Day, it’s also the 20th Birthday of JOY 94.9, Australia’s only LGBTIQ radio station.

The station’s been celebrating its birthday early all week because for December 1st they have put their celebrations aside to focus globally on an important cause.

In partnership with AIDS 2014 and Living Positive Victoria, JOY 94.9 are hosting an on-air and online 24 hour radio and web stream event: World AIDS Day Worldwide.

For 24 hours from 6am December 1st, the program will include six themes, each lasting an hour and repeated in cycles with different speakers from around the globe.

The themes are:
Where are we now?
What’s holding us back?
Stepping up the Pace.
Where are we headed?
20 years of pure JOY.

Connecting internationally renowned experts in HIV medicine and science with local and diverse community leaders globally, this is an exciting day, not only for the station, but also for putting the world on the same page and on the right track as we mark World AIDS 2014.

Headline speakers include the Director of the HIV/AIDS Department of the World Health Organisation in Switzerland Gottfried Hirnschall, Director of UNDP’s HIV, Health & Development Practice Mandeep Dhaliwal from the USA, and Craig McClure, who is the Associate Director and Chief of HIV & AIDS Section in Programme Division in UNICEF.

World AIDS Day in Australia is particularly significant this year as it launches the official countdown to the 20th International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2014), being held in Melbourne in July 2014.
