darwinprideAs the temperature begins to rise, the nights get warmer and the beer gets colder, Darwin’s LGBT residents prepare themselves for the nine-day celebration of their own Pride Festival.

The Darwin Pride Festival runs from Friday November 16 through to Sunday November 25 as a “celebration of all the reasons we have to be proud.”

The festival boasts an impressive line up of events, including the old faithfuls such as the Sunset Harbour Cruise, the Art of Pride exhibition, dance parties, film nights and a family fun day including the famous Camp Dogs dog show.

And well as the old faithfuls, the Darwin Pride Committee explains that there are a number of new events in this year’s mix.

“I’m not allowed to say exactly what the committee has in store, but I can tell you that you might want to pack a towel,” hints Darwin Pride’s James Emery.

“It gets a bit steamy in November, so we want to make sure that there are lots of places to cool down.”

The Darwin Pride Festival is an annual festival in Darwin and underpinning the entire festival is the core understanding that it is ‘run by the community, for the community.’ “Much like Darwin itself, the community in Darwin is a well-established tradition, so anything we do has to be a reflection of this,” Emery notes.

“This is why our festival is so unique. We’re a group of volunteers from the community throwing a celebration that welcomes everyone, where we can all celebrate what it is that makes us proud.”
