bentart1bentART – Australia’s largest and most highly awarded queer art event is calling for Australian artists and entries for its 2012 exhibition.

Entry is open to Australian lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender residents over the age of 18, working across the range of visual arts mediums including painting, sculpture, photography, print making / drawing, textile/fiber and alternative media.

Prospective artists are asked to submit up to three individual pieces that they have produced within the last two years. Full conditions of entry and the 2012 entry form is now available here. Entries close on 23 MAY 2012 at 5pm.

Established in 2005 to celebrate and showcase Australian lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) artists and their art, bentART has grown into the largest and most highly awarded LGBT art event in Australia. Set in the picturesque Blue Mountains where the event was first founded, the annual four-day bentART exhibition is now a much anticipated and respected highlight each year over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend in June, and is judged by recognised experts from within the Australian arts community.

The most highly awarded queer art event in Australia, this year bentART offers winning artists up to 15 prizes with a total value of $6,200. The top three major prizes include the bentART prize and bentART runner up prize(both chosen by bentART judges) and (the People’s Choice prize(nominated by the public). In addition, there are six category awards and a further six highly commended prizes for each visual arts medium – Painting, sculpture, photography, print making/drawing, textile/fibre and alternative media.
